Additional Dialogue Recording (ADR)
Introducing our cutting-edge digital studio for

ADR is short for:

  • Additional Dialogue Recording,
  • Alternative Dialogue Recording,
  • Automated Dialogue Replacement

But really, it depends on who you ask.

According to the internet, they all mean the same thing:
The process of re-recording audio in a more controlled and quieter setting.

Our portable and flexible studio can be set up at any location, providing you with the perfect environment for capturing top-quality audio. Whether you’re working on a film or television production, our studio has everything you need to record dialogue with ease.

With state-of-the-art equipment and a user-friendly interface, you can effortlessly produce professional-grade recordings
that will bring your project to life

The evolution of ADR has been remarkable. We’ve moved beyond the era of Columbo, where a single scene featuring the same actor could have three distinct ambiences. Today, when ADR is executed skillfully, it seamlessly bridges gaps. It’s a testament to its excellence that no one would suspect that two segments of a single sentence were recorded weeks apart in disparate locations.

Prime example that comes to mind is when we recorded lines for the movie Revenant. While the setting for the movie was cold mountains of Montana and Canada border, the recording was done in Acton, Ca, in a 107 degree weather!

Our acknowledgment must extend to our recordists…

Regarding the exceptional category of ADR recordists, I often liken them to the surgical experts of the audio realm. In the medical domain, diverse roles exist, yet the surgeons stand out as the finest. Correspondingly, within the audio universe, ADR represents the utmost specialized field and boasts the scarcest pool of adept individuals. Our principal hurdle lies in identifying an individual who embodies the following qualities:

Exceptionally skilled with Protools, a proficient problem solver and adept trouble shooter (given our self-reliance on location), swift in action, capable of thriving under intense pressure, possesses strong interpersonal skills, and all of this accompanied by a cheerful demeanor!

We have been fortunate to collaborate with a selection of preeminent professionals in this domain, including but not limited to:

  • Tim Friesen
  • Dicken Berglund
  • Michael Hardman
  • Michael Kalifa
  • Ryan Young

Advantages of a mobile recording studio:

  • 1. Improved sound quality

The original live-action sound is often recorded on set and can be contaminated by background noise, such as traffic or any unwanted audio disturbance. By recording the dialogue separately in a controlled environment, the sound quality can be significantly improved.

  • 2. Language Dubbing

This task is often performed when the original dialogue needs to be dubbed into a different language. This is especially useful for films and TV shows that are released in multiple countries.

  • 3. Post-production change

Sometimes during editing, the original dialogue may need to be re-recorded to better match the visuals or to fix any technical issues. ADR provides the opportunity to make these changes without having to reshoot the entire scene.

In short, ADR is a valuable tool in the post-production process that allows filmmakers and audio professionals to create high-quality sound recordings and ensure that their final product sounds as good as it looks.

Whether it’s a simple voiceover, a lengthy ADR or laying vocals, our mobile studio is the solution you’ve been looking for.
