Here are a few things that I like to check before an ADR
session:
1. Is it V/O recording or ADR? Do client have a preference of what mics to use? Generally large diaphragm mic for narration and sometimes 416 or other shotgun for commercials. For ADR Recording shotgun and lavaliere is the standard.
2. What bit and sample rate do the client prefer.
Generally 24bit 48k. What file format do the client prefer? Broadcast wave or AIFF? What is the frame rate of the video? PAL, 23.976 or 24? Set up protools session accordingly. Spot video to match burn in time code unless otherwise requested. Prepare cues ahead of time in protools so that session runs smoothly.
3. How many people will attend the session? How many are physically present? Are some clients attending via Zoom? If so, set up zoom and send out links to clients.
4. Find out how the session is to be delivered to client after session end. We Transfer, hard drive or any other transfer option via internet.
These preparations are essential in my opinion in order for a recording session to run smoothly. It also instills confidence in the operator from the clients.
