Just a few titles that come to mind. But the question remains, which “audio” expert is right for your job. When choosing the right engineer, I take the following into consideration:

– Have excellent job knowledge, Proficiency and fluency with Protools is a must. An above the average knowledge of Zoom and OBS (or equivalent webcam software) and their integration with PT is extremely useful. Also an understanding of live streaming and green screen applications is helpful. As always make sure you know the exact needs of the session when you assign an engineer.
– Have excellent attitude, Cannot stress this fact enough. A calm and friendly demeanor brings about a comfortable environment for clients and crew, which is essential for a smooth recording session.

– Works great under pressure, The fact of the matter is that when there is a celebrity waiting, no one has patience including the director who is screaming in your ear! That seat can get hot really fast and need a strong minded person who can handle the pressure and deliver the best product possible.

– Problem solver/troubleshooter, Since we are always in the field, we don’t have the luxury of an engineering department nearby! So the engineer in charge has to be a quick thinker, problem solver and be able to create “workarounds” until help becomes available.

– Psychologist, In our case, I think this is genetic!
If I were to prioritize, I have to go with all of the above!
