The Right Mic for the Job

Finding the perfect microphone can be a mystery for many clients. While many are happy with our house selection, quiet a few have their own specifics in mind.  As the “facility”, it is a good idea to be ready for any scenario but have other options available. Depending on the type of production, if it’s an established recurring show or a one-off music project, microphone demand and need can be diverse. Usually, being in a metropolitan city like Los Angeles, we can accommodate any request, given sufficient notice.

We have a great selection of microphones on hand, including:

  • Sennheiser MKH-416 Short Shotgun
  • Neumann TLM-193
  • Audio-Technica 4000 Series
  • Sanken Cos-11 Lavalier Microphone

We typically use the Sanken lavalier mic with the Sennheiser shotgun for ADR (Automated Dialogue Replacement). For vocals, voiceovers and instruments, we often reach for the Neumann or Audio-Technica condenser mics. And of course, the trusty Shure SM-55 and SM-58 mics are always there for those times we need a dynamic microphone for a particular job.

And if any other mic is preferred, we can provide it given we have sufficient notice.
I encourage you to read our blog about C-12 microphones. You might get a chuckle! AKG C-12

Remember, the right mic can truly elevate your recording. So next time you’re working on a project, don’t hesitate to ask us about microphones. Clients won’t mind. In fact, quite a few have been surprised and grateful that we bring up the mic question in the first place!
